The Type and Effect
of Vertebral Fractures


There are three main types of vertebral fractures
  • central vertebral deformity (biconcave)
  • wedge, most common at anterior or posterior of vertebrae
  • crush, involving anterior, posterior and central elements
New crush fractures are most often symptomatic, causing initial severe back pain which gradually decreases with time
